Improving energy management for industrial enterprises in Vietnam
Within the Program, RCEE JSC was also the selected as a consultant to support the design and piloting of the Voluntary Energy Efficiency Agreement (VEA) program from 2022 to 2025.
Within
the framework of the Vietnam-Denmark Energy Partnership Programme 2020-2025
(DEPP3) — implemented in collaboration between the Danish Energy Agency and the
Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam — RCEE JSC was selected as the
technical contractor. Their role is to manage and supervise the quality of
energy-saving investment reports and provide in-depth advisories to auditing firms
and large industrial enterprises. This helps optimize energy consumption and
improve energy efficiency based on international expertise tailored to the
Vietnamese context.
In Vietnam, the industrial manufacturing sector is the backbone of the economy but also the largest energy consumer. On the roadmap toward Net Zero by 2050, energy management is no longer an option but a "lever" for profitability. Through DEPP3, many domestic enterprises have reaped the rewards of practical improvements. With the program's support, Vietnamese enterprises have accessed advanced methodologies to enhance energy management, improve load management, transform consumption habits, and adopt green energy, turning emission reduction pressure into a competitive advantage.
"Talking
Numbers" from the demonstration
Results
from pilot enterprises demonstrate clear efficiency in both technical and
financial aspects with highly attractive investment levels. For example:
· Garment and Textile Industry: An enterprise in
Northern Vietnam recorded a 12% reduction in electricity consumption in the
first year. This equates to 2 billion VND saved in electricity costs, while
simultaneously opening doors to demanding markets like the EU by meeting
"green barriers".
· Paper Industry: Implementing energy management helped an
enterprise reduce emissions by 571 tons of CO2. Notably, the payback period for
these improvements was just over one month.
· Food Processing Industry: Upgrading the energy
management system resulted in savings of 238 MWh/year, corresponding to a
reduction of 161 tons of CO2 emissions.
· Precision Engineering: Internal load shifting and
energy management according to ISO 50001 standards helped enterprises save
between 41 - 67 MWh/year.
Dual
Effectiveness: Low Cost, High Value
A
common thread among the solutions within DEPP3 is high feasibility without
requiring massive capital investment. Instead of replacing entire expensive
production lines, enterprises focus on:
· Governance Optimization: Applying energy management
standards and load management to control and balance load profiles.
· Operational Techniques: Routine maintenance and
operational optimization to balance load curves.
It
is evident that smart energy management, load management, and load profile
optimization represent the shortest path for enterprises to both optimize
operating costs and enhance sustainable competitiveness within the global
supply chain.
