Air emission sectoral data verification for Air Quality Management Planning

Under the WB Vietnam AQM TA Program, RCEE – NIRAS has been selected to the air emission sectoral data verification assignment.

Under the WB Vietnam AQM TA Program, RCEE – NIRAS has been selected to the air emission sectoral data verification assignment. The work consists of collecting and verifying, with the applicable authorities, relevant government available information regarding key air pollutant emission sources that are required for the Vietnam GAINS model to calculate emissions of primary particulate matter (PM) and precursors to secondary PM (SO2, NOx, NMVOC, NH3) and greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4).

On June 30 2021, WB coordinated with Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DOIT Hanoi) to organize a webinar on Air Quality Management in Hanoi, thereby announcing the results of analysis of the current situation of pollution sources and solutions.

The results show that burning biomass (bio-materials) accounts for 26%, industrial activities about 29%, traffic accounts for 15% of total PM 2.5 fine dust in Hanoi.

The above results are based on analysis of chemical composition of PM2.5 fine dust in Hanoi, Hung Yen and Bac Ninh and verified by GAINS model to simulate and identify sources of air pollution, thereby proposing develop policies and optimal measures to reduce pollution.
